Speech Therapy Children

What are speech disorders?

The child has speech disorders when she cannot produce and articulate sounds correctly and has language disorders when she has difficulty understanding or putting together words that allow her to communicate an idea.

Speech therapy is speech and language pathology. Our pediatric speech pathologist specializes in working with diagnosed children and children with mild speech delays. During our one-on-one work sessions, speech therapists work on the following deficiencies.

  1. + Articulation disorders: difficulties producing sounds in syllables or saying words incorrectly to the point that listeners cannot understand what is being said.
  2. + Fluency disorders: problems such as stuttering, in which the flow of speech is interrupted by abnormal stops, repetitions or prolongation of sounds and syllables.
  3. + Receptive and expressive language disorders: difficulties understanding what is being said and using the right words when you want to express something.
  4. + Fluency disorders: which is an interruption in the flow of speech characterized by atypical frequency, rhythm, and disfluencies.
  5. + Social / Pragmatic Skills: Pragmatic language is the use of proper communication in social situations (knowing what to say, how to say it, and when to say it).
  6. + Building vocabulary: strategies to help memorize words.
