Occupational Therapy for Children

How can occupational therapy help my child?

Pediatric occupational therapy is a treatment that is integrated with physical therapy and is offered to babies, young children and adolescents and whose essential objective is to achieve independence in all facets of their lives.

Our team of therapists works to ensure that patients acquire security, stability and easy performance in their skills and daily social functions according to their age. At Give Me 5 Therapy Center we work in the following areas:

  1. + Gross motor coordination
  2. + Self-regulation and body awareness
  3. + Sensitivity to stimuli (visual, auditory, oral, tactile, movement)
  4. + Social skills
  5. + Commitment and attention
  6. + Functional communication and social interaction
  7. + Problem solving skills.
  8. + Planning and motor sequence
  9. + Range of motion
  10. + Self-care skills (feeding, dressing, grooming, bathing, going to the bathroom)
  11. + Game skills
  12. + Fine motor coordination (grip, manipulation)
  13. + Perceptual motor skills (puzzle, scissor skills)
  14. + Attention / Focus

Once the child is referred to our center, the occupational therapist administers an occupational therapy (OT) evaluation. During the evaluation, the occupational therapist will assess the child’s current functional status in the above areas. Together with the child and family, a treatment plan is developed with short-term and long-term goals to improve specific abilities and functional limitations.
